30 years of what is considered by many as the Golden Years
of modern popular music.
A 60’s 70’s 80’s Theme
night gives you the opportunity to hear dance classics from Tamala Motown,
Sixties groups, Glam Rock, Disco, Northern Soul, New Romantic, Punk, and New
wave. Whatever the nametag the 60’s 70’s & 80’s provide rich pickings for a
great themed Party night.
Even without the music the
dress styles of these three decades makes it worthwhile to hold a themed party
night.
The sixties offer the Mini
Skirt, Mods & Rockers, Flower Power, Hippies Surfer boys, Carnaby Street
Styles etc.
The 70’s – Oh boy what
a choice;
The Abba Look, Tartan Bay
City Roller Fans (or Rod Stewart),
The image & Glitter of
Glam Rock - Mud, Slade, T Rex, and Sweet
Including Platform shoes,
flared trousers, Tank Tops.
Or
Dig out your Dr. Martins,
Braces, Ben Sherman Shirts & Levis for the Skinhead Look (Many of
us now have the hair style for this look!)
Do you remember the Suede
Heads? Smart Skinheads with Crombies, Stay-press (not sure of the spelling)
Trousers and smart look
Then came the Disco
revolution headed with The White Suit and supported by anything smart loud n
Proud.
How about a trip in the
opposite direction, get your safety pins out throw away the soap, change the
colour of your hair and don the Punk Look (no spitting at the back
please!!)
Throughout the 70’s Denim
was still cool, from Led Zep to Queen, Quo to Clash.
Or you have the Vegas
Elvis look for the boys & Tight Leather of Suzy Quatro for the Girls (if you
dare)
However the 80’s made the
60’s look Dormant & the 70’s look tame when it came to the fashion stakes.
The 80’s look – Boys
will be Boys,
Boys will be Girls,
and Girls will be Boys.
The 80’s began with the
base Punk Look that somehow transformed into guys wearing makeup and almost
outdoing the girls when it came to the hair do’s.
Girls became material
minded From Madonna to Maggie Thatcher the world turned on its head – Designer
Clothes Ruled, if the label was not on the outside why wear it.
Some were even mad enough
to copy Nick Faldo’s Golf Jumpers when they went out!!
The Two-tone label brought
us Ska to the Charts along with Madness, Specials, Fun Boy Three and the image
that went with it
Plus we had the Blues
Brothers
New Romantic was in
abundance with the likes of Duran Duran, Human League, Heaven 17, and Spandau
ballet at the forefront.
Many groups had their own
unique image, Culture Club, Adam Ant and The B52’s to name but a few
Then you have the changes
in just about everything,
Bowie became the Thin
White Duke, The Jam became The Style Council, The Police declined and Sting
rose from the ashes,
Genesis gave us Phil
Collins
Madonna in her various
guises became a world Icon
Pop entered Politics in a
big way with Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, U2 leading the way.
Throughout the three
decades The Beatles were ever present
George & Ringo had
strong solo careers, Paul McCartney had Hits as a Foursome (Beatles) Threesome
(Wings) Duo (Michael Jackson) and Solo, and John Lennon was lost to us in the
80’s
